Moving to Florida? Don’t Make This Common Relocation Mistake
Moving to Florida sounds exciting, but most buyers make at least one mistake before they even realize it — and it’s not because they’re doing anything wrong. The reality is that most people relocating to Florida simply haven’t had the conversations that would help them understand how different living here can be.

After helping buyers relocate to Florida’s Gulf Coast for more than a decade, I see the same patterns over and over again. People visit for a few days, fall in love with the sunshine, beaches, and palm trees, and then start looking at homes without realizing how much geography and lifestyle impact everyday living.

Florida isn’t just one type of lifestyle. Living near the beach can feel completely different from living in a master-planned community like Lakewood Ranch or Wellen Park. Downtown Sarasota offers a totally different pace than Venice, Parrish, or Bradenton. Even neighborhoods just a few miles apart can offer completely different experiences.

That’s why so many of my relocation clients say that one conversation completely changed how they approached their home search. Once they understand how different areas function — commute patterns, proximity to beaches, community design, and the difference between new construction and established neighborhoods — they start making much better decisions.
These insights aren’t opinions. They come from hundreds of real relocation conversations with buyers moving to Florida from all over the country.
