For others, the most important amenity is the surrounding area. Things like easy beach access, walkable downtown restaurants, cultural events, and being close to the places you want to spend your time outside the home.
The challenge is that many communities tend to lean toward one or the other. You can sometimes find places that give you both, but you have to be very strategic about where you look. I see relocation buyers all the time who initially focus on one type of amenity, only to realize later that the lifestyle they really wanted was tied to something completely different.
